Flexible capacity

Useful work, defined properly

Some practices need permanent growth. Others need experienced capacity for a hearing, a backlog, a leave or a defined period. We want relationships with capable Alberta family lawyers who can step into a clear mandate and deliver dependable work.

Assignments may be part-time, project-based or for a defined term. Scope, responsibility, reporting, access to support, conflicts, fees and timing are agreed in writing before work begins. There is no assumed minimum volume unless the parties expressly agree otherwise.

Possible assignments

Meet the practice where it needs strength

The mandate should match the lawyer’s experience, availability and professional obligations.

01

Research & drafting

Complex memos, pleadings, affidavits, briefs, agreements and settlement materials.

02

Hearing preparation

Evidence organization, strategy support, witness preparation and focused advocacy work.

03

Temporary carriage

Continuity during a leave or capacity constraint, with careful client and file handover.

04

Backlog support

A defined stream of suitable matters or tasks that need experienced attention and momentum.

A strong fit

Independent enough to help quickly

What matters

  • Active Alberta practice status and professional liability coverage appropriate to the arrangement.
  • Current family-law experience that matches the accepted scope.
  • Reliable availability, clear communication and realistic commitments.
  • Sound file hygiene, confidentiality and conflict-checking practices.
  • The ability to work within agreed systems while exercising independent professional judgment.

How engagements are shaped

We begin with availability and the problem to solve. If the fit is promising, we define deliverables, responsibility for client communication, supervision if any, systems access, billing, deadlines and handover. No lawyer should discover the real mandate after the work starts.

A respectful process

Start with a conversation, not a performance

Career decisions and practice transitions deserve candid, mutual diligence. The first step is deliberately simple and discreet.

Say hello

Email the careers address with the path that interests you. A résumé is welcome but not required for the first conversation.

Compare goals

We discuss practice, timing, working style and what a good outcome would look like for both sides.

Test the fit

We move into role-specific diligence, including conflicts and professional requirements where appropriate.

Make it clear

If there is a fit, scope, economics, responsibilities and next steps are put in writing before anyone commits.

Common questions

Before you reach out

Is this a standing guarantee of work?

No. Work depends on current needs, conflicts, client requirements, availability and a written engagement. A minimum would apply only if specifically agreed.

Can I remain in my own practice?

Potentially. The structure must work with professional obligations, conflicts, insurance, confidentiality and the agreed mandate. Those questions are part of the initial diligence.

Can the work be remote?

Some assignments can be performed remotely or on a hybrid basis. Court, client, collaboration and secure-system needs may require work in Calgary.

Take the first step

You do not need a polished pitch to begin.

Tell us which path you are considering and what you want from the next chapter. We will arrange a discreet introductory conversation.

Please do not include client-identifying, privileged or other sensitive information in your initial email. Accommodation is available throughout the recruitment process on request.
